Kogi guber candidate, Abejide, congratulates Gov Yahaya Bello on achievements in office

. Commends peaceful conduct of guber poll, declares support for Ododo

. Says people’s interests supersede personal considerations

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State, Hon Leke Abejide, on Sunday, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello, CON, to congratulate him for the peaceful conduct of the election and wish him well in his future endeavours as he prepares to hand over to the Governor-elect in a few days.

Abejide, who is currently representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, commended Governor Bello for what he described as his notable achievements during his administration and declared his support for the Governor-elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo, during the visit.

The ADC candidate, who was received by Governor Yahaya Bello and Governor-elect, Ododo, noted that it was the right of every citizen of constitutional qualification to run for an election but that when the result is declared and a winner has emerged, that should mark the end of politics.

He said all candidates in the November 11 governorship election were qualified Kogi citizens but that only one could be elected and that was the person God had chosen at that time, adding that he would support Ododo to succeed in the interest of the people of Kogi State.

“Your Excellency, let me congratulate my brother, Ahmed Usman Ododo, the governor-elect of our dear state once again. We all ran a good race and we also believe that at the end of it, only one candidate will emerge and we have Ododo as that candidate today. My participation in politics is about the people and once elections are over, all issues around it must be put behind to forge a progressive administration.

“The interest of our people supercedes that of individuals. I will support Ahmed Usman Ododo to succeed in the interest of our people,” he said.

Hon Abejide also commended the Governor-elect for striving to ensure peace and tranquility, noting that prior to the election in 2023, one factor that counted for the governor-elect was his ability to talk to and bring many people on board his team.

While welcoming the governorship candidate to his Abuja residence, Governor Bello reiterated the importance of unity in the quest for realising the state’s vast potential.

Reflecting on the abundance of natural and human resources bestowed upon Kogi by God, he warned that without unity, it could become a proverbial scenario of “when two brothers fight, strangers will inherit their property.”

Governor Bello commended Abejide for playing politics without bitterness, saying Ododo, who would be sworn in in exactly a week, would require the support of every citizen of the state to succeed.

On his part, the Governor-elect stressed that the consolidation and continuity of good governance in Kogi State demanded the collective contributions of all stakeholders.

He urged everyone to view the development of the state as a shared responsibility.

An elated Dr. Nuhu Ibrahim who is the Medical Director said the medical complex satisfies all the specifications for a District Hospital. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of equipment, medical personnel and other staff available at the hospital.

The Administration of Governor Yahaya Bello built the hospital from scratch and it is one of her legacy achievements. Residents say the hospital is a necessity long delayed in coming and thanked Governor Yahaya Bello for breaking the jinx.

They noted that siting the hospital at Gegu-Beki, a town roughly midway between Lokoja the Kogi State capital and Abaji where Abuja the Federal Capital Territory begins and where the nearest hospitals are means that it is strategically positioned to provide comprehensive trauma and emergency medical services to victims on a busy stretch of highway that is accident-endemic and has claimed many lives due to delay in medical attention. President Tinubu Receives Governor Yahaya Bello As Both Leaders Discuss Security and Economic Issues

In a crucial meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu warmly received Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and both engaged in a productive dialogue around pressing security and economic concerns facing the nation, and Kogi State in particular.

The visit, which took place against the backdrop of Governor Bello’s impending handover of power to his successor, Governor-Elect Ahmed Usman Ododo on January 27, 2024, underscored the importance of intergovernmental collaboration and the continued pursuit of progress even during transitional periods.

The meeting’s agenda further reinforces the significance of collaborative efforts between the federal and state governments in tackling the nation’s challenges. Security and the economy are topmost on the list of national issues of priority concern to all Nigerians.

The two leaders’ deliberations thus highlighted the urgency of finding actionable and immediate solutions through synergy between all levels of Government in the country, especially the imperatives of a unified approach.

It will be recalled that Governor Yahaya Bello is widely recognized as the most successful Governor in security matters over the last 8 years. Even as bandits and other armed and hostile non-state actors overran highways in parts of the country, Bello’s administration kept the crucial corridor between both parts of the country that ran through the state open and safe, through thick and thin.

The administration also managed to secure her boundaries with ten other states, greatly contributing to overall national security. Although Governor Bello’s departure from office at the end of this month has left many citizens concerned about security in the North Central state which is considered the gateway between the north and south of Nigeria, the outgoing helmsman has continued to reassure the nation that his successor is well prepared to do even better in security and all areas.

President Tinubu also commended Governor Bello for his exemplary leadership in Kogi State since assuming office in January 2016. The President’s acknowledgment of Governor Bello’s dedication and the positive impact he has had on the state’s prosperity and the well-being of its people joins a growing list of accolades for the outgoing helmsman of the Confluence State.

This medium also gathered that ensuring a smooth transition and sustaining the pace of development set by Bello’s administration progress was also of interest to President Tinubu who received assurances from Bello that the process is on course without any hitches.

The President further underscored the ongoing commitment of his government to ensuring a smooth transition and continuing good governance in Kogi State. The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss strategies for continuity and to lay the groundwork for the incoming administration to build upon the successes of the outgoing government.

Ultimately, the meeting between President Tinubu and Governor Yahaya Bello reinforced the crucial role of intergovernmental cooperation in addressing the nation’s challenges. It also highlighted the importance of open communication, collaboration, and a shared vision for the future of Nigeria between leadership at the federal level and the sub- national units.
