Governor Yahaya Bello has restated his administration’s commitment to the development of education in Kogi State.

He described education as a significant asset to the state during his attendance at the 6th Combined Convocation Ceremony of the Kogi State College of Nursing and Midwifery in Obangede, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

He said this just as the Provost of the college, Mrs. Hannah Abraham, credited the governor for the improved rating of the institution and successes recorded, including academic excellence, noting that these would not have been possible without the state government’s substantial investments in the institution under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello.

While congratulating the graduating students, the Governor emphasised the crucial role of education in nation-building and urged them to focus on acquiring practical skills, not solely relying on academic qualifications.

He affirmed that his administration would maintain its prioritisation of educational development in Kogi State.

Governor Bello commended the management of the institution for the remarkable progress and visible improvements in the school.

He recalled the challenging conditions the institution faced when he assumed office in 2015, operating out of a bungalow.

However, under his leadership, the school has witnessed substantial growth, including the construction of classrooms, hostels, laboratories, and faculty buildings.

Today, it stands as a fully accredited institution, which he finds heartening.

Earlier, the institution’s provost, Mrs. Hannah Abraham, highlighted the school’s achievements, encompassing academic excellence, physical infrastructure development, staff training, and welfare.

She noted that all courses at the institution had received accreditation, making Kogi State College of Nursing and Midwifery in Obangede a sought-after nursing school in Nigeria.

Furthermore, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) granted approval for the Kogi State College of Nursing and Midwifery in Obangede to offer the Higher National Diploma (HND) program in Nursing, which is already underway.

To ensure the quality of incoming students, the admission process has since been through the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).

She highlighted the resolution of the longstanding challenge of hostel accommodation, with renovations to existing structures and the construction of new ones.

About 1,069 students took part in the Convocation ceremony on Sunday, September 9, after completing their studies.

The Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Yahaya Bello, CON, has approved 100 per cent increment in the allowance of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Kogi State for their mandatory one-year service.

The Governor approved the raise considering the current economic realities and the overall importance of the NYSC scheme to national and state development.

He spoke during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 of the NYSC at the State’s Orientation Camp, Asanya, in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Tuesday.

The Governor also announced a donation of N37.7 million as logistics support for the Youth Corps members as they move to their respective places of primary assignments and called on private sector employers to prioritise their welfare.

He charged the Corps members to be of good behaviour and encouraged them to embrace the spirit of ‘One Nigeria’ and treat all citizens as fellow Nigerians, transcending ethnic and religious boundaries.

He urged them to demonstrate diligence, hard work, commitment, and understanding throughout their service years, as these qualities would prepare them to overcome challenges after completing their service period.

Governor Bello commended the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Pastor (Mrs) Adebimpe Williams, for the camp’s overall infrastructure improvement and assured that other developmental requests would receive due attention.

We have constructed roads and bridges, provided electricity to many communities, revitalized the educational system, repositioned our healthcare system to provide quality and affordable healthcare to our people, and provided support to farmers to boost agricultural output in the State.

We have also made great strides in the area of security.

We have invested in training and equipping our security agencies to effectively combat crime and criminality in the state. The result is that we have been able to significantly reduce incidences of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of criminal activities in the State.

We will not rest on our oars until we achieve total security for all citizens in the State. I am fully aware that success without a successor is merely delayed failure, which is why the GYB political family is working around the clock to ensure that our next Governor is not only one trained and conversant in the system, but somebody who possesses proven capacity to sustain and accelerate the pace of development that I have set over the last seven and a half years.

My Government, my Cabinet and our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State are united in our commitment to Consolidation and Continuity of the massive developmental strides which we have accomplished across the length and breadth of Kogi State. Accordingly, we have chosen a fitting flagbearer, practically a consensus candidate, for the 2023 Kogi State Gubernatorial Elections slated for November 11.

Our choice is Ododo Ahmed Usman. He is a seasoned professional and an innovative leader who helped to restore sanity to the State’s Public Service and finances over the years. He is a silent reformer and one of the key operatives of our New Direction Blueprint.

If there is anyone who will resolve the present conundrum we currently have with workforce and wages at all levels, it is him. I assure you that Ododo Ahmed Usman is well-prepared for Governance. I have full confidence in his ability to make sure that the legacies of the New Direction Agenda continue to expand exponentially and to massively benefit every Kogite after I leave office on January 27th, 2024.

I commend him to you and specifically request that you transfer to him the usual overwhelming electoral support which you have always given to me.
